Jeff Fritz, CEO, Revel Health
It’s clear that many healthcare organizations are struggling to build a complete picture of an individual’s health, and as a result, can’t create significant connections. Bridging the gap between merely engaging members and motivating them to positive health action is perhaps one of the biggest challenges for large health plans and providers today. While population health is an important factor when considering these obstacles, it’s important to note with so many messaging channels and preferences, new methods are needed to help healthcare organizations not just manage data, but personalize messaging approaches in a way that is relevant and impactful to each unique individual within that population.
Revel is a next-gen healthcare technology company that helps healthcare organizations bridge the gap between engagement and health action. Revel’s approach combines sophisticated behavioral science methods with advanced technologies to drive highly personalized messaging campaigns across multiple communications channels. The company’s approach is so effective that many of the largest health payers in the U.S. are achieving double or even triple-digit improvements in health action campaign metrics using Revel’s advanced platform, research methods, and techniques.
In return, data regarding health risks and impacts of specific social determinants is reported at an aggregate level to help healthcare organizations prioritize and develop strategies that focus on the most impactful programs for each particular population. As Revel CEO Jeff Fritz explains, “a hyper-personalized approach empowers members to take action on their health, which in turn helps organizations vastly improve health outcomes. Of course, this drives other bottom-line metrics in a positive direction as well.”
Revel’s advanced, data-driven health action platform, Revel Connect, uses a powerful combination of behavioral science, data, and advanced analytics to create health action programs that build significantly more meaningful and therefore more effective, connections with each individual within the member population. As Fritz states, “Building meaningful connections that will motivate individuals to do better things for their health requires technology that is not only data-driven but smart enough to evolve and improve as it gathers more information.”
Revel’s approach combining advanced technologies and the latest in behavioral science methods has been designed to improve and measure not only engagement but the most important outcome of all: whether healthier action is being taken. Interactive assessment tools that address both health risks, as well as social determinants of health, helps uncover individual preferences and unique needs.

Highly personalized messages are then created and delivered based on those characteristics, while a feedback system within the platform continuously enhances and improves each subsequent outreach. The result is a more meaningful engagement that leads to much higher rates of health action within the overall population.
Although there are many success stories powered by the unique value proposition of Revel’s health action programs, a recent Medicare program provides an excellent reflection of the results experienced by many Revel customers. One of the largest healthcare organizations in the United States wanted to improve its ability to identify not only current but future gaps in healthcare. Although studies consistently report that people who participate in annual wellness visits receive 62 percent more preventive screenings for chronic diseases, one of the plan’s programs reported that only 16 percent of Medicare recipients were choosing to schedule an annual visit of this type.
The plan partnered with Revel to create a health action program that would educate members around the importance of these annual visits and drive up the number of people scheduling annual wellness visits. To drive better health action, the experts at Revel needed to create a highly personalized approach that considered not only logistics data but behavioral and emotional factors that were creating obstacles to achieving this important goal.
Revel’s approach for this health plan was to align a targeted strategy with information compiled from member data by designing highly personalized, relevant messaging for carefully chosen member demographic segments. With a combination of both education and an understanding of each member’s unique needs and preferences, the new Revel program delivered messages that were targeted to each member’s perceived motivation for visiting the doctor. As a result, significantly better health outcomes were achieved. Nearly 20 percent of members scheduled a visit immediately after messaging, and the healthcare organization reported an overall 10 percent increase in wellness visits, an enormous number—given the size of the population being addressed.
This story and many others help demonstrate Revel’s proven track record of delivering significant health outcomes through Revel Connect’s advanced technology, sophisticated behavioral science methods, and proven data practices. But as CEO Fritz emphatically states, “Good data and a strong platform are not enough to drive the improvements in health action that are required if we’re going to truly transform healthcare within this country. Better overall population health outcomes start with understanding the unique needs of every individual first while creating programs that not only engage but motivate entire populations to healthier action.”
