With an absolute focus on moving healthcare into homes, Boxborough, MA-based Senscio Systems developed an intelligent and interactive digital therapeutics platform—Ibis—to transform complex-care management and improve lives. At the heart of Ibis is Scio—a patent-pending Artificial Intelligence (AI) engine that gathers and contextualizes data and produces patient-and population-based insights. “Scio is the ‘brain in the box’ that understands the process of aging and the subtleties of various diseases that we detect exacerbations of,” delineates Dr. De. The suite offers care-teams with 24/7 real-time monitoring to learn the usual activity routines of their patients based on behavioral patterns and detects anomalies, and issues alerts in case of exacerbations.
The Ibis care delivery model has been designed to identify and prevent gaps in care and reduce healthcare costs by amalgamating high impact relationship-based coaching and care-coordination with analytics. The Ibis care model enrolls members/patients in Senscio’s Centers for Personalized Care (CPCs) and offers services such as tele-monitoring, self-management support, early-intervention coordination, and personalized care.
The in-home technology and artificially intelligent interpretation of data elicits a rapid response from a patient’s clinicians in case of exacerbations to ensure health issues are addressed at home without the need for hospitalization.
In one instance, a leading healthcare provider leveraged Senscio’s solution to help Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) patients become habituated with their care. The experts at Senscio collaborated with the provider’s head pulmonologist and developed the early warning system for COPD. Having undergone multiple iterations, the perfected solution proactively detected the symptoms three to seven days prior to when patients themselves would detect a further aggravation in their medical condition, leading to fewer instances of hospitalization. “Going through a path-finding journey on what moved the needle for us, we realized it was both habituation and our ability to detect problems early on,” explains Dr. De.
Addressing a key workflow challenge of healthcare systems, Senscio has enabled a transition from a physician-based to a team-based care model to focus on five percent of the population accounting for 50 percent of the healthcare costs.
